$8.8B Warriors Valuation + 750M Views: The NBA’s Big Play

Warriors lead NBA franchise values again, Europe loves the NBA, and we hit 750 million views.

Hey you,

I’ve been digging into some wild numbers about NBA franchise values this week and I had to share them with you. If you’re into the business side of sports… you’ll love this.

Here’s what we’ve got today:

  • How the Warriors hit the top spot in franchise value (again)

  • The NBA’s insane success in Europe and how the Warriors are winning on social media

  • A Silver plaque & 750 million views

Let’s go!

NBA Franchise Values Skyrocket: Here’s What You Need to Know

The Golden State Warriors just claimed the top spot again in Forbes' NBA franchise valuations.

Let’s break down the numbers that are shaking up the sports biz right now.

Warriors Dominate the Field

For the third year in a row, the Golden State Warriors lead the pack in franchise value.

Their valuation has shot up to a mind-blowing $8.8 billion (+14% from last year).

That’s a $1.3 billion gap between them and the second-place New York Knicks.

To put this in context:

The Warriors’ revenue hit $800 million during the 23/24 season…

A figure only matched by the Dallas Cowboys, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Barcelona.

The Warriors aren’t just playing basketball…they’re playing in an elite financial league of their own.

NBA’s Rising Tide Lifts Everyone

But it’s not just the Warriors who are seeing massive gains.

The average NBA franchise value has jumped 15% year-over-year to $4.4 billion.

Which means every NBA team is now worth over $3 billion - even the Memphis Grizzlies, which rank last in value but still hit that $3 billion mark.

This kind of growth shows just how strong the NBA’s brand is, and the numbers don’t lie…

The league has seen steady growth in franchise value (see graph below):

Media Rights: The NBA’s Secret Weapon

So what’s driving these crazy valuations?

A big piece of it is the NBA’s media rights deals.

Starting next season, the league’s new $76 billion media rights agreement is going to pour even more fuel on the fire.

These deals aren’t just about revenue…

Look at the table below:

Year

Average Revenue Multiple

2023

10.9

2024

11.7

Every team’s revenue multiple has jumped past 10, with the league average rising to 11.7 (up from 10.9 last year).

Investors are clearly seeing the NBA as a long-term win.

What’s Next?

The NBA is crushing it right now, both in Europe and with social media powerhouses like the Golden State Warriors.

Combine that with the league’s massive $76 billion media rights deal, and the potential for growth is off the charts.

NBA’s European Breakthrough

The NBA saw insane engagement across Europe and the Middle East in the 23/24 season:

  • +1 billion views on the NBA App, League Pass, and local social media accounts

  • 700 million views from Europe alone

  •  A 100% year-over-year jump in views on localized accounts

  • And a 220% increase in watch time on the NBA Europe YouTube channel

The NBA’s focus on localized content and expanding across multiple platforms has unlocked massive global engagement.

The Warriors' Social Media Domination

Then there’s the Golden State Warriors…

Who absolutely nailed it with their “Gold Blooded” documentary series on the NBA YouTube channel last year.

This is social media marketing done right:

  • It was named “Best in Sports Social Media” at the Webby Awards.

  • They gained 3 million new followers across all platforms (in 3 months)

  • Their domestic accounts pulled in 161.2 million engagements (May & June 2022)

  • And now, they’re officially the most-followed NBA team, with over 69 million followers (across all platforms)

Here’s some personal takeaways you can run with:

  • Create region-specific accounts and tweak your content to match the local vibes.

  • Be everywhere your audience is (YouTube, Shorts, IG, TikTok, Email)

  • Focus on engaging video content (the NBA’s & Warriors success on YouTube is proof of this).

  • Offer exclusive content to build a deep connections with your fans.
